Placemaking for Change: Non-Traditional Models of Community Revitalization

This forum was held in November 2004 at the Harvard Design School and more recently at the University of Virginia in November 2005.

Each Forum presented four outstanding places that embody creative approaches to community revitalization. Although very different from each other, each project identifies a critical point of impact in the fabric of the community, those elusive tipping points where timely and strategic intervention can have maximum impact. These four projects embody important insights into the urban social fabric and the built environment, and find new points of intervention that suggest new directions in the ongoing effort to revitalize our cities.

In addition, we were honored to have Andy Altman, Former Director of the Office of Planning, Washington, D.C. as our featured luncheon speaker in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Reese Fayde, CEO of Living Cities, as our speaker in Charlottesville, Virginia.
